October 2023 MoCo Quiet Skies October Update
MCQSC UPDATE: OCTOBER 13, 2023
THE FAA’s NOISE POLICY REVIEW COMMENT PERIOD IS CLOSED. A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who sent in comments!
As mentioned in earlier emails, it is because of intense pressure by communities like ours from all across the country that the FAA started a process to update its aviation noise policies.
It was critically important that the FAA hear from impacted and well informed community members like YOU and they did: 7,219 comments were submitted by members of the public, the scientific community, and a variety of organizations.
You can find your own comment(s) or those of others in the FAA docket here under the button “Browse All Comments.”
You can find the detailed technical and policy comments that MoCo Quiet Skies Coalition leaders submitted online here (and attached).
Additionally, Dr. Bill Noonan, an MCQSC member who also serves on the DCA Community Noise Working Group, submitted a document that he co-authored with Dr. Jamie Banks, the President of Quiet Communities, entitled A Critique of DNL and the Case for Additional Metrics (also attached).
Anne Hollander and Bill Noonan also served as advisors to Quiet American Skies / Quiet Communities for their submission to the FAA, and we benefited greatly from the outstanding work of the Aviation-Impacted Communities Alliance.
We will keep you posted as this unfolds over the coming months and (realistically) years. In the meantime, we still anticipate a new approach procedure/flight path that will take some of the noise off of our communities sometime in mid-2024….!
