We hate to share bad news, but it appears that the date for changes to approach procedures into DCA from the north has slipped from May 16th to July 11th. We were not officially notified of the change by the FAA nor given any explanation, but the date of publication has changed on the FAA website that tracks these things, the IFP Gateway, and it was brought to our attention by our consultant, Jim Allerdice. If you were counting the weeks (like we were), add 8 more weeks to your counting - and let's all hope that it doesn't slip again.
Hello and New Year’s greetings from the Montgomery County Quiet Skies Coalition!
The new year is an opportunity to reflect on what we learned and accomplished in 2023 as we continue to seek solutions to excessive and repetitive aircraft noise in our communities.
FAA presented on new GPS southflow arrivals procedure and declared pursuing Noise Abatement Departure Procedure (NADP-1) is not viable for DCA.
The FAA presented on its nationwide noise complaint portal and the agency’s health impacts research.
The Maryland/Arlington counties aviation consultant presented alternatives considered to mitigate noise from aircraft departing to the north. Two recommendations to ameliorate this noise were approved by the group. The FAA will study.
