October 2018 MCQSC Update: International Environmental Noise Guidelines Addresses Aviation Noise

The World Health Organization just released new environmental noise guidelines for the European Region.  The report specifically addresses noise from aviation, among many sources of noise.

According to the scientific data cited in the report, safe levels of noise from aircraft are approximately 2 orders of magnitude (100 times) lower than the levels permitted by the FAA in the U.S (65 DNL).   (Aviation noise guidelines begin on page 61.)

The report cites a well-established body of scientific data regarding the health impacts of noise including cognitive impairment, cardiovascular disease, sleep disturbance, quality of life, mental health, and metabolic outcomes.
